Jake Paul and Mike Tyson have both been temporarily sidelined from boxing following their much-anticipated Netflix superfight. However, the suspension is relatively brief for both athletes.
On November 15, after months of buildup, the two squared off in Dallas, Texas. Jake Paul secured a unanimous decision victory over Mike Tyson, as the 58-year-old struggled to connect or compete with his younger opponent.
Getting Tyson to agree to the fight was a challenge in itself. In the lead-up, he revealed he faced serious health issues, including an ulcer flare-up that required eight blood transfusions after he lost “half” of his blood. Tyson admitted the ordeal left him feeling like he “almost died.”
Because the match adhered to professional boxing regulations, both fighters are subject to a medically mandated suspension in Texas.
Jake Paul and Mike Tyson Face Brief Suspension
According to MMAJunkie, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) has issued a 28-day suspension for both fighters. This length of suspension corresponds to three days for each round of their fight.
For Jake Paul, the brief hiatus is unlikely to disrupt his schedule significantly, as he typically takes months to plan his next match. He’s also not expected to step in as a last-minute replacement for any upcoming fights.
In the aftermath of the bout, Jake expressed disappointment with Tyson’s performance. “I wish he had put up more of a fight, so I could have done more and risen to a higher level,” Paul remarked. He also told his brother Logan on their podcast ImPaulsive that Tyson’s punches didn’t have much impact. “I felt nothing. He didn’t really land anything,” he said.
For Tyson, the suspension is unlikely to change his trajectory either, as his return to the ring seems doubtful after this loss.
