Get ready for an electrifying summer in Zimbabwe, as two of Jamaica’s biggest stars, Chris Martin and Busy Signal, are set to ignite the stage at the Kadoma Music Festival this year! Both artists are no strangers to Zimbabwean audiences, promising a reunion for the ages.
The much-anticipated festival is slated for October 11 at the Odyssey in Kadoma.
For Busy Signal, this return marks a decade since his last visit, a trip that notably saw him immerse himself in the local culture. Ten years ago, he famously visited Matapi flats, connecting with local dancehall artists at Chillspot Records, where massive crowds gathered to catch a glimpse of the Jamaican icon.
It seemed Busy Signal instantly fell in love with the vibrant energy of the Zimbabwean ghetto. From Mbare, his tour continued to Highfield, where he was once again greeted by an enthusiastic throng of fans.
Reflecting on his previous visit, Busy Signal remarked, “This is our motherland, you are our brothers and sisters and compared to other African countries, this is a totally different vibe, which reminds me of back home in Jamaica.” He added, “I always like to travel, see different places and different things but it’s nice here and this is the origin so I don’t see why I should not come and stay here.”
Now, in October, he will be back “home” for another monumental show, much to the delight of his loyal fanbase.
The excitement generated by the announcement of Chris Martin and Busy Signal has already been palpable, with organizers noting requests from fans to extend the festival to a two-day event.
However, festival founder Tich Maradze confirmed that the event will remain a one-day affair. “I understand what some of the people have been suggesting, that we make it a two-day event, but we have just settled on October 11,” Maradze explained. “We won’t change that because it is straining to make it a two-day event. We will certainly keep it as a one-day event, and we want fans to come in numbers and enjoy themselves.”
Maradze emphasized the festival’s growing popularity and national appeal. “It’s an annual event that has become popular with fans, and we want them to enjoy it to the fullest,” he said. “Our wish has always been to make fans happy, and this festival has become a national event. If you have been following the trends, you will realise that it is attracting hordes of fans from across the country.”
He also highlighted the lasting impact of previous editions. “The festival has also created moments that many people still cherish. We will continue doing our best to make sure fans enjoy themselves.”
Tich Maradze’s son, Prince, who is being groomed to take on a role in the entertainment industry, shared insights into the planning process. “After every edition, we take time to listen to comments and fan interest in terms of who they want to see next,” Prince stated. “We are always trying to grow and bring new fans to the event, which is why we explore different genres – something you will definitely see this year. Definitely expect fireworks as always.”
The inclusion of Chris Martin, celebrated for his smooth vocals and hits like “Cheaters Prayer” and “Big Deal,” along with dancehall powerhouse Busy Signal, known for energetic performances and tracks such as “Stay So” and “One More Night,” unequivocally underscores the Kadoma Music Festival’s rising prominence on the national entertainment calendar. Get ready for an unforgettable night!
