PRETORIA – South African songbird Kelly Khumalo had a conversation with one of the men accused of killing footballer Senzo Meyiwa, in which he told her that they were on their way to her residence, the Pretoria High Court has heard.
The revelation came during the cross-examination Vodacom’s Forensic Liaison Supervisor, Pinky Vythilingam, about cellphone numbers belonging to singer Kelly Khumalo, who was Meyiwa’s lover.
During the cross-examination, it also emerged that Khumalo was using as many as six cell phones in the period leading to the footballer’s death.
During the cross-examination, Thulani Mngomezulu who is representing accused number one, Muzi Sibiya, revealed contents of the explosive confession by one of the accused, which pointed to the fact that they had received a call from Khumalo before telling her they were on their way to her residence.
“According to the state, accused number two made a confession and in that confession it states that accused number three was in communication with Kelly Khumalo. Do you follow me?

“In terms of that confession, Kelly Khumalo called accused number three and asked him where were they and the answer was sisi we are on our way. That’s what is in that confession,” said Mngomezulu.
Mngomezulu was questioning why Vythilingam had given evidence about two cell phones when it was alleged that she was using as many as six at the time of Meyiwa’s murder.
“What you did give is evidence related to two cellphone numbers that belong to Kelly Khumalo but you would agree with me, I understand that Kelly Khumalo was using six cellphone numbers according to evidence that is yet to be confirmed, this is not according to your evidence,” said Mngomezulu.
Meyiwa was fatally shot in the chest when two intruders allegedly entered the family home of his then-girlfriend, Khumalo, in Vosloorus in October 2014 while he was relaxing with her and other friends.
Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa and Sifisokuhle Nkani Ntuli are standing trial for the murder of the Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana footballer.
