Real Madrid supporters have come out in defense of star striker Kylian Mbappé amid media reports linking him to a rape investigation in Sweden. Swedish prosecutors confirmed on Tuesday that an investigation is underway regarding an alleged incident at a luxury hotel in Stockholm on October 10, although they did not name Mbappé.
Reports suggest that the French forward was the subject of the inquiry following his recent visit to the Swedish capital, a claim that both he and his lawyer have denied.
Juan Castro, a 72-year-old fan, dismissed the media coverage as “fake news,” asserting that Mbappé is too intelligent to engage in such behavior. “He’s a capable individual; he wouldn’t make a foolish mistake like this,” Castro said outside the Bernabéu stadium.
Another supporter, 88-year-old Marcelino Alvarez, suggested that the allegations stem from Mbappé’s ongoing disputes with former club Paris Saint-Germain, where he claims he is owed 55 million euros in unpaid wages. “This is an attempt to undermine Mbappé, all coming from PSG. These claims need to be substantiated,” Alvarez remarked.
While Swedish authorities have yet to officially link Mbappé to the case, reactions among fans have been mixed. Some expressed disappointment, including 18-year-old Mateo Baez, who stated, “It’s a very serious accusation, and it reflects poorly on the club.”
Celia Mejia, a 28-year-old care worker visiting Madrid, shared her concerns about the allegations affecting her experience. “If the accusations are true, he should face consequences. It’s disheartening as a fan.”
Despite the turmoil, Real Madrid fans recently named Mbappé their player of the month for September, and he expressed his happiness in a video shared by the club on Thursday.
