Three individuals believed to be connected to the murder of 18 people in Lusikisiki have been apprehended in KwaZulu-Natal.
The suspects were arrested in Port Shepstone on the KZN South Coast during an intelligence-driven operation conducted in the early hours of Wednesday. Members of the SAPS Port Shepstone K9 and Public Order Policing units executed the arrests.
KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda reported that authorities received information from a community member about the suspects’ whereabouts at a rented location in the Mkholombe informal settlement.
“A swift operation was initiated, resulting in the capture of three men aged 22, 24, and 31,” he said.
The investigation continues, with police actively searching for a firearm that the suspects allegedly used during the incident.
On Tuesday, a man previously arrested in connection with the shootings chose to withdraw his bail application. Siphosoxolo Myekethe, 45, faces 18 counts of murder and appeared in the Lusikisiki Magistrate’s Court. Notably, Myekethe is a convicted felon who was out on parole at the time of the alleged offenses.
The mass shootings occurred on September 28, 2024, and the victims were laid to rest over the weekend, with the youngest victim being just 14 years old.
Authorities have yet to disclose the motive behind the shooting.
