Madzibaba Ishmael says he’s only doing the ‘Lord’s work’ As Police Swoops In!

In a pre-dawn spectacle that echoed with tension and mystery, a battalion of police officers, armed to the teeth and trailed by sniffer dogs, descended upon Madzibaba Ishmael Chokurongerwa’s sprawling farm in Nyabira.

The farm, which doubled as a compound housing over 1,000 individuals, had long been shrouded in whispers of cult-like practices and alleged abuse.

As the clock struck 4 a.m., the silence of the night shattered as residents were roused from their slumber by the cacophony of the raid. Led by a determined force, the officers navigated the labyrinthine paths of the compound, eventually arriving at Madzibaba Ishmael’s shrine. Here, they embarked on a series of interviews, probing into concerns raised about the captivity-like conditions within the compound.

For the inhabitants, the compound represented their Promised Land, a sanctuary where they had found refuge under the tutelage of Madzibaba Ishmael, their leader—a figure with a shadowy past as an ex-convict. Yet, as authorities delved deeper, a stark reality emerged: scores of children, segregated by age, revealed a chilling absence of birth certificates and schooling, citing restrictions imposed upon them.

Health, Victim Friendly Unit, and Social Welfare officials meticulously canvassed the compound, seeking accounts of abuse. However, to their surprise, women and children alike vehemently denied any knowledge or experience of such mistreatment, pledging allegiance to their leader and asserting their presence as a matter of choice, not coercion.

Amidst the tension, Madzibaba Ishmael himself emerged, imploring the officers to lay down their weapons in the name of peace—a peace he adamantly claimed his followers upheld. Yet, as the authorities probed further, unsettling discoveries emerged: shallow graves encircling an anthill, a stark reminder of the mysteries lurking beneath the surface.

As Madzibaba Ishmael and four of his faithful were escorted to the Nyabira Police Station, the veil of secrecy surrounding the compound began to fray, revealing a complex web of devotion, control, and unanswered questions.
