Magaya’s Legal Battle to Stop January 25 ZIFA Elections Intensifies

Harare, Zimbabwe | Prophet Walter Magaya’s bid to halt the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) executive elections, scheduled for January 25 at Rainbow Towers in Harare, remains ongoing as legal proceedings continue.

High Court Judge Tawanda Chitapi has deferred the matter to Friday, recognizing the urgency of Magaya’s application.

Magaya, expressing dissatisfaction with his disqualification from the ZIFA executive committee elections, has turned to the High Court for intervention.

His disqualification stemmed from failing to meet the ZIFA Electoral Committee’s eligibility criteria, reportedly due to pending legal cases and a prior conviction related to the Aguma medication issue.

Determined to challenge this decision, Magaya filed an urgent application last Friday through his legal representative, Everson Chatambudza of Chatambudza and Rubaya Legal Practitioners.

A notice issued by his lawyers stated:

“Take notice that the above urgent chamber application for interdict will be heard and determined by the High Court of Zimbabwe at Harare before Honourable Mr. Justice Chitapi T on Tuesday the 14th of January 2025 at 0900 or soon thereafter as counsel may be heard.”

In addition to seeking relief from the High Court, Magaya, who is also the president of Yadah FC, has escalated the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
