Magistrate Issues Arrest Warrant for Fraud Suspect ‘Calton Mudiwiwa’ in R440,000 Mining Scam

Harare regional magistrate, Mr. Stanford Mambanje, has issued an arrest warrant for a man accused of defrauding a South African-based mining company of R440,000 after he failed to appear in court for his judgment.

The accused, Calton Mudiwiwa (39), is facing fraud charges. The complainant, Davure Mining, is represented by its manager, Masimba Mukarati.

Davure Mining is a holding company with subsidiaries in South Africa and Zimbabwe, operating in mining, cattle ranching, and agriculture.

According to the court, on October 20, 2021, Mukarati sought to purchase a Toyota Hilux Legend 50 double-cab from South Africa. He shared this plan with Mudiwiwa, who offered to assist with importing the vehicle.

Following Mudiwiwa’s instructions, Davure Mining used its South Africa FNB Bank account to pay Wish Worthy Investments for the vehicle. Mukarati provided proof of payment to Mudiwiwa to facilitate the process. However, Mudiwiwa allegedly failed to import the vehicle, gave false assurances, and eventually became unresponsive.

Mukarati reported the incident to the police, leading to Mudiwiwa’s arrest.
