Malawi is mourning the loss of 10 lives after the wreckage of a Dornier 228 military plane, carrying Vice President Saulos Chilima and former first lady Shanil Dzimbiri, was discovered in the Chikangawa Forest.
The plane had disappeared on Monday morning during its 45-minute journey from the capital city of Lilongwe to Mzuzu.
Authorities confirmed that all 10 passengers on board, including the vice president, had tragically lost their lives. The aircraft had reportedly been advised by air traffic controllers against landing at Mzuzu’s airport due to adverse weather conditions and poor visibility.
The impact of the crash was severe, leaving debris and fragments of the plane scattered over a wide area. The authorities have confirmed that all 10 passengers on board, including Vice President Saulos Chilima, tragically lost their lives in the crash.
