Man Jailed for Beating Three After Demanding US$10
A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to six months in prison for assaulting three individuals after demanding $10 from one of the victims.
According to a statement released by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) on X, the incident occurred on February 26, 2024, at approximately 5:00 pm in Nyatondo Village, Chief Hata, Nyanga. Tafadzwa Mutetwa approached Nilanda Hwedza at her workplace and demanded $10 in cash.

Hwedza inquired about Mutetwa’s intentions for the money, which seemed to provoke him.
“He turned violent and started assaulting the complainant with open hands and fists all over the body several times. The complainant was in the company of her cousin, a 14-year-old form two student. The 14-year-old attempted to rescue her cousin but was also assaulted with open hands twice on the left cheek by the accused person. Another complainant, aged 36, Darlington Chimboza also came to rescue the women and he was also assaulted by the accused person”, said the NPAZ.
Mutetwa received a six-month suspended sentence, contingent upon him completing 210 hours of community service.
Last year, three men, were reportedly forcibly entered a residence and attacked its occupants with an iron bar while demanding money, have each been sentenced to five years in prison. The trio viciously assaulted Makoni, one of the occupants, with a metal object after forcing her to the ground and demanding cash. They proceeded to seize her purse, extracting US$10, and continued their assault while demanding additional funds.
