Manchester United’s newly appointed coach, Ruben Amorim, has expressed his discomfort with the chants from fans in his honor, following the team’s 4-0 win over Everton on Sunday.
Despite securing a victory over both Everton and Bodø/Glimt, Amorim stated that he does not feel comfortable with the chant “Give it Up” by KC and the Sunshine Band, which was sung by United supporters at Old Trafford.
“I don’t like the chant,” Amorim admitted. “I feel a bit uncomfortable. I’m the coach, and I think the fans should focus on supporting the players and the team on the pitch, not me.”
While he acknowledged and appreciated the connection with the fans, Amorim emphasized that results are crucial for maintaining that bond. He stressed that although he values the support, the players should be the center of attention during matches, as he remains on the sidelines.
Amorim has also faced scrutiny over his decision to implement a 3-4-3 formation at United, which differs from the previous 4-3-3 formation used by interim coach Ruud van Nistelrooy. However, Amorim remains focused on improving his team’s understanding of the game, asserting that the system itself is not the issue.
