Mawere’s Family Ensures Continued Care Amid Health Recovery

The family of Zimbabwean-born South African businessman Mutumwa Mawere has united to ensure he continues receiving medical care after he fell ill in June 2024. His relatives have been contributing funds to cover the costs of his rehabilitation and associated medical expenses.

A family member shared that Mawere is still undergoing various therapies, including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy, and is making significant progress. The family is optimistic about his recovery, which has been noticeable since the start of 2025.

“It’s important to remember that recovery is a gradual process, not something that happens overnight. We’re pleased with the progress he’s making, and as a family, we’re grateful for the support from the medical team and the unity within our family,” the relative explained.

The family also confirmed that on or around January 28, 2025, they made a deposit and paid for a monthly plan at a nearby exclusive medical facility located less than 2 kilometers from Mawere’s home.

The facility provides private rooms for patients, ensuring their comfort and privacy. The family has provided proof of payment, amounting to nearly R200,000.00 (two hundred thousand South African Rand). The relative emphasized that Mawere does not require admission to a step-down facility, contrary to some public suggestions by his friends.

Another family member revealed that very few people have visited Mawere since June 2024, and some friends who claim to be close to him last saw him before the start of 2024.

These friends have advocated for Mawere’s admission to a medical institution, despite no doctor recommending such a step. The family insists that Mawere should stay in the private facility they’ve chosen in Sandton, Johannesburg, where he will stay for the next three to five months.

The relative expressed frustration with those who publicly disclosed Mawere’s home address, creating unnecessary security risks. “There was no reason for anyone to reveal his address. This has put him at greater risk, which is unfortunate,” they added.
