Police Search for Memory Chisokwe After Theft of US$41,000 in Murewa

Police have launched a search for a woman employed at a money transfer service in Murewa, Mashonaland East, who allegedly stole US$41,000 in cash from her employer on Monday and disappeared.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) released a statement on X, identifying the suspect as Memory Chisokwe, a teller at the outlet. Chisokwe is accused of receiving the cash from a security company, only to fail to report for work the following day, sparking an investigation.

The ZRP is requesting assistance from the public, asking anyone with information on Chisokwe’s whereabouts to come forward. The statement read:

“Police in Murewa are seeking information to help locate Memory Chisokwe, who is wanted in connection with a theft at a money transfer outlet on November 25, 2024. The suspect, a teller, allegedly took US$41,000.00 in cash she received from a security company and failed to show up for work the next day. Anyone with relevant information is urged to report to the nearest police station.”

In a separate incident, a teller at a money transfer outlet in Ngundu, Masvingo, was reportedly ambushed by four armed robbers while on his way home on Monday. The robbers forced the teller to return to the outlet, where they stole US$46,349.00 and ZAR 924,100.00 after coercing him to open the safe.
