Gray Mudiwa (44) and Annavester Mudiwa (39), a couple from Harare who operate a construction business named Gray Homes, are facing serious fraud allegations.
They are accused of defrauding Miniyothabo Chiwenga, the wife of Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga, of nearly $1 million. The funds were intended for the construction of a house, warehouse, and shopping mall, but the couple abandoned these projects.
The Mudiwas recently appeared in court to face new fraud charges involving over $472,000. They are scheduled to return to court on September 12 for a bail decision.
Prosecutor Anesu Chirenje reported that last August, the Mudiwas deceived businessman Anyway Choto into paying $122,163 for a warehouse project in Marondera. They only laid the foundation and then diverted the money for their own use, leaving Choto with a $105,963 loss.

In another instance, Annavester Mudiwa tricked Osborn Kudyanyemba of Colclare Investments in March this year. Mudiwa persuaded Kudyanyemba to supply $31,723 worth of electrical goods for a non-existent hardware shop. Despite promising payment within 30 days, Mudiwa never paid, resulting in a financial loss for Kudyanyemba.
Additionally, the Mudiwas defrauded Never Tembo, director of Virtuetrade Petroleum, in January. Tembo paid $390,000 for a double-storey house in Glen Lorne, but only partial construction was completed. Tembo later discovered through social media that the Mudiwas had been arrested for defrauding Chiwenga’s wife. An investigation revealed they had only used $117,000 of the payment, leaving Tembo with a $273,000 loss.
