A brand-new airport is on the horizon. The current Grand Reef Airport will be relocated to Mutasa South District, where there’s ample space for a modern, state-of-the-art facility.
A feasibility study is already underway, and the goal is to complete it by year-end. This promises to be a game-changer for Manicaland, boosting tourism, business, and cargo transport.
But that’s not all. Roads around Mutare are also getting a much-needed overhaul. The Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme Phase 2 (ERRP2) is tackling key routes, making them safer and smoother.
Speaking of safety, the notorious Christmas Pass is finally getting bypassed! A 33km stretch of road will divert trucks directly to the upgraded Forbes Border Post, taking the pressure off the treacherous pass.
This project is in partnership with Leengate Private Limited and is expected to start soon.
And there’s more! The government is also eyeing the expansion of Cashel Valley Border Post and dualization of the Mutare-Harare road. Forbes Border Post itself is getting a facelift, with construction set to begin soon.
This is a golden age for Mutare’s infrastructure. These projects promise to unlock economic growth, improve connectivity, and create new jobs.
