MASVINGO | A group of boarding students from Mutero High School sustained injuries this morning in a road accident involving a commuter omnibus.
The incident occurred near Munyati River Bridge on the Harare-Masvingo Highway.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the Toyota Quantum Kombi, carrying the students, a driver, and a parent, burst a tyre and overturned at the 106 km mark along the Harare-Beitbridge Road near Chivhu. The vehicle was en route to Masvingo when it lost control and flipped three times, eventually landing on its wheels.
The accident took place at approximately 1000 hours this morning.
All occupants of the vehicle are currently receiving medical treatment at Chivhu General Hospital.
Separately, the police reported another road traffic accident in Gweru.
According to authorities, the accident occurred yesterday at the 6 km peg along Gweru-Shurugwi Road.
One person was reported dead while 29 others sustained injuries when a White Nissan Caravan Kombi, carrying 18 passengers, collided with another White Nissan Caravan Kombi, also carrying 18 passengers, in a side swipe.
The deceased individual’s body has been transferred to Gweru Provincial Hospital mortuary pending post mortem examination, while the injured are receiving treatment at the same hospital.
Investigations into both accidents are ongoing, police said.
