Mwenezi Man Severely Injured by Baboon Attack While Guarding Field, Appeals for Medical Assistance

A Mwenezi man narrowly avoided losing his hands after a baboon attacked him during a fight while he was guarding a field with his uncle last Friday.

Tawanda Gijima, 31, from Rushamhu Village in Chief Neshuro, sustained serious injuries to both hands and is currently receiving medical care at a local hospital.

His sister, Violet Mahondo, confirmed the incident to The Mirror and appealed for help to cover his medical expenses and buy necessary medication.

According to the details, Gijima was guarding the field from baboons around 2 pm with his uncle when a baboon, being chased by dogs from another area, ran through their field. The baboon killed one of the dogs during the altercation, prompting Gijima to flee. However, he tripped and fell onto a tree stump. The baboon then attempted to grab him by the neck but, failing that, began to bite his arms.

“My brother screamed for help, and our uncle rushed to his aid, managing to scare the baboon away. The baboon left severe bite marks on his hands,” Mahondo explained.

Gijima did not immediately go to the hospital and only sought medical attention after receiving help from a kind-hearted person.

“My brother needs medication, but we don’t have the money. We are asking for assistance to cover his hospital bills and purchase his medication,” Mahondo added.

Anyone who wishes to help Gijima can contact his sister, Violet Mahondo, at 0786788650, or The Mirror Helpline at 0716895703 / 0775691380.
