Former night club manager Ronnie Ngwenya who has been accused of raping a 13-year-old girl has been slapped with a 12-year jail term.
He was convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a teenage schoolgirl and acquitted of two rape counts.
Initially, Magistrate Fadzai Mthombeni sentenced Ngwenya to 15 years imprisonment. 3 years were suspended on condition that he refrains from committing any offense of a sexual nature within the next five years.
Ngwenya was convicted after a full trial.
The State had alleged that Ngwenya illicitly entered the sleeping teenager’s bedroom at around 1 am and raped her.
After a few minutes, he purportedly reentered the room and raped her for a second time.
After disclosing the distressing incidents, the girl sought assistance from her relatives, who supported her in reporting the assaults to the police.
