Cde Blessed Runesu Geza, a well-known war veteran, has reportedly gone into exile to escape an impending arrest. Contrary to widespread speculation on social media suggesting he was hiding at Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks, credible sources have confirmed that he has instead left the country.
Geza has been in the spotlight for openly criticizing the President and now faces several criminal charges. He has been charged with four counts of theft under Section 113 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act (Chapter 9:23).
Additionally, he is accused of undermining presidential authority under Section 33 (2) (a) (ii) of the same act. Another charge against him includes inciting public violence, in violation of Section 187 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have issued a warning regarding Geza’s capture, stressing that anyone found assisting or sheltering him will also face legal action. National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi reaffirmed law enforcement’s determination to apprehend him and ensure justice is served.
Beyond his criminal allegations, Geza is also embroiled in a civil dispute over a US$1.5 million deal concerning the purchase of Harare Safari Lodge, a prestigious property overlooking Lake Chivero. The disagreement stems from an agreement made four years ago between Geza and the lodge’s legal owner, Mr. McDonald.
As per the agreement, Geza was to acquire full ownership of the lodge for US$1.5 million, with payment expected within two weeks.
However, reports indicate that he has failed to fulfill his financial obligations, further complicating his legal troubles.
