OK Zimbabwe, a leading retail giant, has officially launched the 35th edition of its renowned Grand Challenge promotion, boasting a prize pool exceeding US$1 million and featuring support from over 40 local brands.
The event kicked off at OKmart Harare, marking a resilient stance against the challenging landscape faced by formal retail businesses throughout the year.
This year’s Grand Challenge sees an expansion with the inclusion of OKmart for the second time, alongside the national OK Stores chain, bringing the total participating outlets to 60, up from the traditional 52.
Supply chain director of OK Zimbabwe, Knox Mupaya, emphasized the company’s commitment to bringing happiness to shoppers, particularly evident through iconic promotions like the OK Grand Challenge. Mupaya stated, “Our ability to mobilize prizes worth US$1 million, especially in a tough year for retail, underscores our dedication to delivering value to our customers.”
The Grand Challenge offers an impressive array of prizes, including 50 vehicles and the grand prize, a Ford Ranger XLT double cab. Participation involves spending US$10 or more at any OK Store or US$100 or more at any OKmart.

Under the theme “OK Grand Challenge, Where the Nation Shops and Saves,” the promotion aims to highlight OK Zimbabwe’s historical strength in providing unbeatable prices and full value to Zimbabweans.
Stanley Meck, marketing director at OK Zimbabwe, elaborated on the theme, emphasizing the retailer’s commitment to ensuring customers receive optimal value for their purchases. Meck stated, “Our goal is to position ourselves as the destination for the smart shopper, offering savings not just during the OK Grand Challenge but also beyond.”
With a network comprising over 73 stores, including supermarkets, Bon Marche outlets, OKmarts, and a standalone liquor store, OK Zimbabwe stands as the country’s largest and most diverse retailer, with over 82 years of trading experience.
This year’s Grand Challenge marks the 35th installment in Zimbabwe’s retail landscape, solidifying its status as one of the region’s largest promotions.
Additionally, as part of its commitment to social responsibility, OK Zimbabwe will donate a car to the Emthunzini Wethemba Children’s Home in Bulawayo, aligning with its ethos of “profit with purpose.”
While the total investment for the promotion was not disclosed, last year’s expenditure was close to US$2.5 million.
