Oscar Pistorius Freed on Parole 11 Years After KILLING Reeva Steenkamp
Johannesburg | The former Paralympic champion, who was formerly dubbed the “blade runner,” was given parole in November and was released from a South African prison today. According to the country’s correctional services administration, the athlete is now back at home.
On Valentine’s Day in 2013, Pistorius shot Reeva Steenkamp at his Pretoria, South Africa, home.
The 37-year-old said that he thought she was an intruder and shot her through a bathroom door.
Prosecutors said that the murder was planned and that he shot Ms Steenkamp after she ran to the bathroom after an argument.
Pistorius’s release is set to expire in December 2029, during which time he will be subject to limitations and overseen by a correctional services representative.
In addition, he will perform community service and undergo treatment for “gender-based violence issues” and anger management.
It was required of him to remain on his uncle’s estate in Pretoria.
In November, Ms. Steenkamp’s mother stated that she was still not convinced by Pistorius’s assertion that he believed he was firing at an intruder.
Furthermore, she expressed her doubts about Pistorius’s rehabilitation.
In a case that was shown live on television, Pistorius was first found guilty of culpable homicide, which is the same as manslaughter, rather than murder.

In 2014, he was given a five-year term, which he later served out under home arrest.
A year later, the top court of South Africa reversed the verdict and ruled him guilty of murder.
