Two suspected armed robbers, accused of a series of car thefts in Harare, appeared in court yesterday facing charges of armed robbery and four counts of theft. The individuals, John Nhira and Innocent Chigwaze, were remanded in custody until February 13 and were advised to seek bail at the High Court by Harare regional magistrate Stanford Mambanje. Robbers
The allegations state that on December 2 last year, the suspects hired a car from Zindoga Shopping Centre to Epworth, robbed the driver, and stole the vehicle. The car was found without its engine and gearbox at Nhira’s last place of residence in Darwendale on December 27.

Later, the suspects were arrested in Warren Park after stealing a Toyota Hiace. They faced mob justice, as seen in a video that went viral on social media earlier this week. In another incident, the duo stole Tawanda Pamire’s Honda Fit in Mbare using duplicate keys. They also stole another car parked at a car park in Warren Park, which was later recovered without its engine, windows, and doors.
The suspects will remain in custody until their next court appearance, and they have been encouraged to pursue bail through the High Court.
