Drivers are being advised to steer clear of the Chris Hani Road area in Durban North following a shootout that occurred on Monday morning, leaving a suspected criminal with several gunshot wounds.
Garrith Jamieson from ALS Paramedics reported that emergency services responded to the scene of a shooting at the intersection of Chris Hani Road (formerly North Coast Road) and Rinaldo Road.
The incident unfolded during a police pursuit of suspected criminals.

According to reports, the suspects crashed their vehicle, leading to an exchange of gunfire with the South African Police Service (SAPS). One suspect sustained gunshot wounds to the lower body and is receiving medical treatment.
“The other suspect has been apprehended by SAPS,” Jamieson added.
The area has been cordoned off as authorities continue their investigation into the events leading up to the shooting. Jamieson urged motorists to avoid the vicinity while the police conduct their work, emphasizing the importance of steering clear to ensure safety.
The SAPS are expected to release an official statement on the matter soon.
This incident follows a violent week in KwaZulu-Natal, where three suspects, believed to be involved in multiple murder and extortion cases, were killed in gunfights with police. The suspects lost their lives in two separate operations in Mariannhill and Inanda.
In one of the incidents, police spokesperson Robert Nethsuinda revealed that law enforcement officials engaged in a shootout with a suspect in Gilebe, Inanda.
The suspect opened fire when police arrived, resulting in a fatal exchange of gunfire. The ongoing violence has highlighted the escalating tensions between law enforcement and criminal elements in the region.
