Police Speak On Why They Arrested Minister's Son Neville Mutsvangwa

Harare | The Zimbabwe Republic Police has confirmed the arrest of Neville Sunungurai Mutsvangwa, son of Women’s Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Minister Monica Mutsvangwa, along with two others, Elias Majachani and Simbarashe Tichingana.

The arrest comes in connection with allegations of contravening section 14 (1) of the Bank Use Promotion and Suppression of Money Laundering Act, Chapter 24:24.

According to a statement obtained by ZiMetro News, Neville Mutsvangwa (44) and his co-accused are facing charges related to money laundering activities. The trio is set to appear in court on the 10th of May 2024 to answer to the charges.

The specific details surrounding the alleged money laundering activities have not been disclosed by the Zimbabwe Republic Police.

However, the arrest of Neville Mutsvangwa, being the son of a prominent government official, has drawn significant attention.

Women’s Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Minister Monica Mutsvangwa has said the charges of illegal foreign currency trading against her son, Neville, were fabricated.

Neville was arrested on Wednesday at his Mt Pleasant home in Harare by detectives from the CID commercial crimes unit on allegations of contravening the Exchange Control Act by illegally trading in foreign currency.
