The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has dismissed social media reports alleging the abduction or disappearance of Vongai Nadia Mabvirakure, stating that the information being circulated is misleading and does not reflect the actual situation.
According to ZRP, Mabvirakure is a suspect in a case of theft of trust property, as outlined in Section 113 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23. The case was reported by Tichabaiwa Gwadu on behalf of Matiza Foundation.
Investigations reveal that in September 2024, Mabvirakure, through her company Green Rebirth Trust, entered into a partnership with Matiza Foundation to construct a greenhouse or shed net at Chomupunga Business Centre in Murewa. She was given USD 15,200 in cash to purchase building materials based on her quotation.
However, instead of making direct payments to Brickforce Hardware, Murewa, she allegedly diverted the funds for personal use. She then obtained the required materials on credit under Matiza Foundation’s name, misrepresenting the payment arrangement. The deception was discovered when Brickforce Hardware reached out to Matiza Foundation demanding payment, prompting the organization to report the matter to ZRP Murewa.
On March 5, 2025, officers from CID Murewa attempted to locate Mabvirakure at her Chitungwiza residence but were informed by her son, Patrick Mabvirakure, that she was not at home.
The ZRP has since confirmed that Mabvirakure has been located and is currently hospitalized under police guard. Investigations into the theft case and claims made by her family are ongoing.
The police urge the public to rely on verified information rather than speculative reports circulating on social media.
