POLITICAL THUGGERY: Zanu-PF ‘Praise Singer’ Masomere Exposed in Massive US$500k Mining Cartel Scandal

POLITICAL THUGGERY: Zanu-PF 'Praise Singer' Masomere Exposed in Massive US$500k Mining Cartel Scandal

Mutare, Zimbabwe | Hiding behind the Zanu-PF regalia to allegedly loot national resources, flamboyant ruling party cheerleader David Masomere—popularly known as DJ Masomere—has been unmasked as the ringleader of a dirty mining syndicate accused of terrorizing communities and seizing gold claims with impunity.

Masomere, who has often used his proximity to power to posture as an untouchable political elite, is now embroiled in a messy fraud scandal alongside his business associate, Kennedy Sithole. The pair stands accused of weaponizing their political connections to bulldoze traditional leaders and defraud investors in a grab for gold riches in Penhalonga and Mutasa District.

The “Untouchable” Syndicate

Operating under the veil of Wan Wenjin Jewellers (Pvt) Limited—a Chinese-registered entity—Masomere and Sithole allegedly believed their political “protection” placed them above the law.

The duo is accused of fabricating fraudulent documents to hijack lucrative mining claims in Stapleford and Penhalonga. Their brazen arrogance reached a boiling point when they reportedly invaded land under the jurisdiction of Chief Mutasa, ignoring the traditional leader’s authority.

Local sources claim the syndicate operated with the swagger of men who believed a phone call to “Chefs” in Harare would silence any opposition. Chief Mutasa, however, refused to be intimidated, maintaining that the land was stolen from the community by politically connected vultures.

In a shocking turn of events that suggests the duo’s political cover has finally blown off, Mines and Mining Development Minister Winston Chitando has moved to dismantle the cartel.

Citing glaring irregularities and a violation of the Mines and Minerals Act, Minister Chitando has revoked Wan Wenjin Jewellers’ mining licenses in Mutasa District. In a victory for the community against political bullying, the Government has since issued Special Grant No. 10007 to the Mutasa Mining Syndicate, returning control of the gold fields to Chief Mutasa and his people.

The US$500,000 “Double-Dip” Fraud

The rot in Masomere’s empire goes deeper. The “praise singer” is currently facing a High Court showdown with Rock Investments, an investor allegedly duped by the syndicate.

According to court papers, Masomere and Sithole sold a mining claim to Rock Investments for a staggering US$500,000. However, in a move described as “gangsterism” by observers, the duo allegedly took a US$200,000 deposit and then refused to vacate the mine.

Lawyer Prince Mahembe revealed that instead of handing over ownership, Wan Wenjin Jewellers continued to plunder the site, frantically mining the gold meant for the buyer—effectively selling the mine and looting it at the same time. Rock Investments has now filed an urgent application to stop the “looting” of their resource.

As the legal noose tightens, the syndicate has turned on itself.

Wan Wenjin Jewellers has issued a desperate public notice disowning Kennedy Sithole. The company now claims Sithole—Masomere’s key associate—was the mastermind behind the fraudulent documents, warning the public that dealing with him is a risk.

Masomere, attempting to save face, claims the matter is before the courts and denies wrongdoing. However, with his licenses cancelled and lawsuits piling up, the narrative of the “untouchable” party loyalist is collapsing under the weight of alleged greed.
