President Emmerson Mnangagwa is scheduled to officially open the Second Session of the 10th Parliament today, where he will present the legislative roadmap for the period from October 2024 to October 2025.
During the session, the President will also deliver the State of the Nation Address to both the National Assembly and the Senate.
Speaking to The Herald on Tuesday, Clerk of Parliament Kennedy Chokuda highlighted that several key bills, including the Mines and Minerals Amendment Bill, will be part of the upcoming legislative agenda. Chokuda explained:
“The State of the Nation Address and the official opening of Parliament are constitutional requirements. Arrangements have been made for the President to address Parliament today.”
He further mentioned that the President’s address will outline the legislative priorities for the new session, which will include bills that were previously under discussion, as well as new legislation.
One of the key bills expected to carry over into the new session is the Mines and Minerals Amendment Bill, which has been resubmitted to Parliament and is ready for gazetting.
Chokuda also mentioned that several other bills are being reviewed by ministries and will be tabled in due course.
Reflecting on the first session of the 10th Parliament, Chokuda noted that members were becoming familiar with their responsibilities and emphasized Parliament’s commitment to working diligently to pass necessary legislation.
