President Emmerson Mnangagwa has lauded the Zimbabwean diaspora for their pivotal role in attracting international investors under the ‘Zimbabwe is Open for Business’ initiative, which aims to drive economic growth by encouraging capital inflows.
Speaking during his keynote address at the closing ceremony of the Zim Afro T10 second edition tournament, held at Harare Sports Club, Mnangagwa highlighted the importance of the diaspora’s contributions. He expressed his appreciation for their efforts in promoting Zimbabwe as an investment destination, particularly in the realm of cricket.
“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to our diaspora community, who have worked diligently to persuade investors to bring their resources to Zimbabwe, especially in cricket,” Mnangagwa said. “Together, we will ensure that no one and no place is left behind, particularly in the world of sports.”
Looking ahead, the President urged the Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Zimbabwe Cricket, and other stakeholders to implement development programs that extend to the grassroots level, reaching every village.
The President was among the enthusiastic crowd that attended the tournament’s final match, alongside prominent figures such as UAE billionaire Shaji Ul Mulk, founder and chairman of T Ten Global Sports, Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe, and award-winning diaspora investor Dr. Paul Tungwarara.
In April 2022, under Mnangagwa’s leadership, the government approved a series of projects worth USD 1 billion spearheaded by Mulk Holdings. Dr. Tungwarara played a crucial role in bringing Mulk to Zimbabwe, and the Zim Afro T10 tournament is part of this collaborative effort under the banner of T Ten Global Sports.
Mnangagwa also acknowledged the global reach of the T10 tournament, which is broadcast live to over 100 countries and has an audience of more than 400 million viewers.
“This tournament puts Zimbabwe on the world stage,” he remarked, emphasizing its role in showcasing the nation to an international audience.
