Harare, Zimbabwe | President Mnangagwa has praised the Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church for its continued commitment to community development and its contributions to national progress.
Delivering a televised address during the “Celestial Chorus Volume 2 Soiree” New Year Crossover Night held at the Rainbow Towers in Harare on December 31, the President commended the church’s dedication to fostering education, health care, social welfare, and spiritual awareness.
The event, which brought together Cabinet Ministers, diplomats, celebrities, musicians, and members of the SDA Church, highlighted the church’s role in uplifting communities and advancing Zimbabwe’s vision of shared prosperity.
“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all members of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church for your unwavering devotion and commitment to our nation,” President Mnangagwa said. “Your contributions in education, health care, social welfare, and spiritual awareness have been transformative.”
Quoting Psalm 127:1, the President reminded attendees of the importance of involving God in all endeavors, emphasizing that strong families are the foundation of a strong nation.
“As the Bible says, ‘If the Lord does not build a home, they labour in vain they that build it.’ I commend the SDA Church for promoting family-centered values, which align perfectly with our national goal of creating a society founded on love, harmony, and prosperity,” he said.
President Mnangagwa also urged communities of faith to collaborate and support one another in the New Year.

“May this period bring joy, renewed hope, and deep compassion to all,” he said. “I encourage all faith communities to remain in a spirit of collaboration to realize our common aspirations for a better Zimbabwe. Let us work together to achieve the vision of an upper middle-income economy.”
He further called on religious communities to continue praying for the nation’s leadership, underscoring the importance of faith and unity in building Zimbabwe’s future.
“Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo, inotongwa nevene vayo, inonamatirwa nevene vayo,” he said, reiterating the national mantra, which translates to “A country is built, governed, and prayed for by its own people.”
Speaking at the same event, SDA Church leader and businessman Mr. Kudakwashe Tagwireyi urged young people to dedicate themselves to God’s work and become active participants in democracy and nation-building.
“We are in a war, and I urge you to stand up and be counted—not only as participants but as soldiers of democracy,” Mr. Tagwireyi said. He also encouraged attendees to cultivate goodwill, stating, “Be a friend to all and an enemy to none. Strive to make a positive impact in all that you do.”
The evening featured vibrant performances by regional and local gospel musicians, including Janet Manyowa, Everton Mlalazi, Natasha Mlalazi, Blue and Tadiwa, Xola Toto, Fisani, Rudo Madindi, Khaya Mthethwa, Mmatema, and Canaan Nyathi. The artists performed popular SDA hymns, creating a spiritual and uplifting atmosphere for the New Year celebrations.
