The Cabinet has approved the key principles of the Private Investigators and Security Guards (Control) Bill, aimed at regulating the licensing of individuals and companies offering security services.
During a post-Cabinet briefing in Harare on Tuesday, Information Minister Jenfan Muswere revealed that the Bill will create the Zimbabwe Private Security Regulatory Authority. This body will play a vital role in enhancing public safety by setting industry standards, promoting compliance, and overseeing private security service providers.
According to Muswere, the Bill also introduces updated regulatory criteria for private investigators by amending Section 7 of the Act, which covers the licensing of these professionals. Licensed investigators will have the authority to hire unlimited additional investigators or consult without needing prior approval from the regulator.
A private investigator’s license will only be granted after a comprehensive background check, completion of training, and attainment of a government-recognized qualification.
