A family from Gutu is reeling from shock after their four-month-old baby was abducted from their home but was later discovered unharmed in a nearby bush the next morning.
Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, confirmed the incident to TellZim News and urged parents to prioritize their children’s safety.
“We received a report regarding the abduction of Primrose Magagade’s infant. We strongly advise parents to be vigilant and ensure their children are always protected. Infants are vulnerable as they cannot make decisions or defend themselves in dangerous situations,” Dhewa stated.
According to reports, the incident took place on January 31, 2025, around 2 PM. Magagade, 18, had gone to fetch water from a well, securing her bedroom by locking the door and hiding the keys.

However, upon her return, she found the door unlocked, the keys in place, and her baby missing—along with baby blankets and a 10-kilogram bag of mealie meal.
After informing her mother, a frantic search was conducted, but the child was nowhere to be found. The family then reported the matter to the police.
In the early hours of the next morning, at approximately 4 AM, Magagade and her 12-year-old brother went to fetch water when they overheard voices in a nearby bush. Moments later, they heard a baby crying. Alarmed, they rushed home to alert their parents.
When the family returned to the scene, they found the infant wrapped in a towel, lying next to a sack of mealie meal by the roadside. The baby had mosquito bite marks but showed no signs of harm. After being breastfed without any issues, the child was taken to Nerupiri Clinic for a medical checkup.
