Harare | Professor Morgan Chitiyo of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro was asked to speak at the strategic planning workshop on November 4, 2023, by the Federation of Zimbabwean Educators Unions (FOZEU), a federation made up of five unions: ARTUZ, PTUZ, EUZ, PEUZ, and ZVTU. The presentation focused on the value of teachers as an essential component of education.
The implementation of inclusive education and the role of the teacher were covered by Professor Morgan Chitiyo.
“Teacher training should incorporate basic special education preparation for all teachers so that all teachers understand how to support all learners.
We have case examples of this model in countries like Malawi who are making the necessary adjustments to their teacher preparation curricular to support the inclusive education model” Said Prof Chitiyo.
The Esteemed Zimbabwean born Professor who has done a lot of research in different countries is the current Department Chair of Specialized Education Services at North Carolina University Greensboro.
He is a holder of Ph.D. in Applied Behaviour Analysis and an MBA from Tennesee Technological University and a B.A.Ed. from Africa University.
His research focuses on Positive Behaviour Support systems in school settings, autism, Inclusive Education and Special education professional development for school teachers.
