Ukrainian officials reported that a significant Russian missile strike targeted critical infrastructure in the western part of the country, prompting nationwide air alerts. This strike occurred shortly after Ukraine conducted one of its largest aerial attacks on Russian soil, hitting factories and energy sites far from the front lines.
Svitlana Onyshchuk, the regional governor of Ivano-Frankivsk in western Ukraine, confirmed that vital infrastructure in the Prykarpattia region had been hit. However, she assured the public that air defenses were in operation and there were no reported casualties, with the situation described as being “under control.”
Meanwhile, officials in the Lviv region, which shares a border with Poland, reported that two critical infrastructure sites were damaged in Drogobych and Stryi districts. Governor Maksym Kozytsky mentioned that although there were no casualties, the attack caused significant damage.

In response to the assault, Ukraine’s national power grid operator announced emergency blackouts across seven regions, including the eastern Donetsk area. Energy Minister German Galushchenko stated that the shutdowns were a precautionary measure due to the scale of the attack.
Donetsk’s governor also reported damage to critical infrastructure in his region over the past 24 hours but did not specify the exact timing of the strikes.
The mayor of Kherson in southern Ukraine confirmed that part of the city had lost electricity as a result of the missile strikes, though no specific number of affected residents was provided.
Ukraine had earlier issued air raid alerts across the country, warning of incoming cruise missiles targeting various regions, including Kryvyi Rig, Chernigiv, Poltava, and Mykolaiv. Additionally, the capital city of Kyiv was reported to be in the missile’s path.
The Russian military has been engaged in an ongoing campaign of bombings aimed at Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, claiming that the strikes target facilities supporting Ukraine’s military operations. Moscow also accused Kyiv of using Western-supplied missiles in previous attacks and vowed to retaliate.
