A 29-year-old man is set to appear in the Wentworth Magistrate’s Court on Thursday after being accused of selling dagga to at least 10 school students.
Colonel Robert Netshiunda, a provincial police spokesperson, confirmed that the man was apprehended on November 13, 2024, outside a high school in Lamontville while engaging in the illegal sale of drugs.
“Acting on a tip-off about a man selling drugs to school children, police officers from the Social Crime Prevention unit organized a targeted operation,” said Netshiunda.
During the operation, the suspect was found in a room near the school with 10 students, eight of whom were girls. Authorities also discovered that the man had dagga in his possession, which he was allegedly selling to the learners.
In response, police issued a stern warning to the students, who were released into the custody of their parents. Authorities emphasized the importance of protecting the future of young people, particularly during their final exams.
The accused faces charges related to drug dealing. In a separate case, last week, a couple in Sophiatown, Johannesburg, was arrested on charges of drug trafficking and bribery following a community tip-off.
