Selmor Mtukudzi expressed her frustration at being treated like an outcast by her stepmother, Daisy, during an emotional performance at the Pakare Paye Arts Centre in Norton.
This show marked her first appearance since the passing of her father, the legendary Oliver Mtukudzi, five years ago. Selmor’s performance was cut short as she broke down on stage, overwhelmed by the pain of being excluded from the family dynamics and denied the opportunity to perform at the venue for years.
Initially, Selmor was not scheduled to perform at the Oliver Mtukudzi International Festival of the Arts, but fans’ outcry led to her inclusion as a key performer. The strained relationship between Selmor and Daisy has persisted over the years, and efforts to discuss their issues during the festival did not materialize.

During her set, Selmor shared her heartache, lamenting the treatment she has received as her father’s daughter. After only singing a few verses of his song “Changu Chii?” alongside Tuku’s longtime collaborator Picky Kasamba and her sister Sandra, she became overwhelmed and left the stage, despite pleas from fans to continue.
Selmor voiced her feelings of being marginalized, stating, “It’s hard to live knowing you’re being treated as an outcast in your father’s house.” She attended the festival at the invitation of promoter Josh Hozheri, but her emotions resurfaced during the performance.
Fans expressed disappointment that she wasn’t given a slot on the festival’s closing night alongside other prominent artists. Daisy had previously acknowledged their differences, labeling Selmor as difficult to work with, while Selmor and her sister Sandra are Tuku’s daughters from his first marriage, with most of Tuku’s assets managed by Daisy. Despite the family tensions, Selmor has made a name for herself in music and maintains a strong following.
