Serial stock thief apprehended in Zvimba

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested a suspected serial stock thief in connection with two stock theft cases.

According to a police record obtained by ZiMetro News, the culprit, Criswell Maponga, was apprehended after receiving a tip.

On 23/11/22 Police in Zvimba acted on a tip-off and arrested Criswell Maponga (42) in connection with two cases of stock theft in which eight cattle were stolen at Farm 79 Zowa and eight cattle stolen at Mhungu Village.

The arrest led to the recovery of 15 stolen cattle.

While this year recorded fewer cases of stock theft compared to 2021, cases have been rising in the country in recent years.

According to police, from January to June 2022, the department received 3214 stock theft cases, compared to 4053 incidents over the same time in the previous year.

As of September 2022, the Police has documented 1644 occurrences of cattle stock theft, compared to 2510 cases in 2021.

The total number of cattle taken reduced from 5954 in 2021 to 3762 in 2022.

Some take cattle to add to their herds of meat, while others utilize them for barter exchange or selling to butcheries.

Value-Added Tax Deferral Minimum Threshold Raised To $1 Million

 

Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube said that the minimum threshold for VAT deferral has been raised from US$500,000 to US$1 million.

The government approved a temporary exemption from paying VAT on selected capital items imported by enterprises in the manufacturing, agricultural, mining, aviation, transportation, and health sectors.
