Dzivarasekwa, Harare | Seven people lost their lives early this morning, while eight others sustained injuries after a commuter omnibus they were traveling in was struck by a haulage truck along the Harare-Bulawayo Road near the Dzivarasekwa turn-off.
The tragic accident occurred at a traffic-lights-controlled intersection near Thuli Service Station. According to police reports, the commuter omnibus failed to give way, leading to a collision with the haulage truck. The impact pushed the kombi into a Nissan UD truck, further compounding the severity of the crash.
National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are ongoing and that more details will be released soon.
“The circumstances surrounding the accident are under investigation. We urge motorists to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to avoid such tragedies,” he said.
The site of the accident, commonly known as Pamagetsi, has developed a reputation as a black spot due to frequent fatal road crashes. Authorities have repeatedly warned drivers to be extra vigilant when approaching the intersection.
The injured passengers have been taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Families of the deceased are expected to be notified as investigations progress.
This latest accident highlights ongoing road safety concerns, with authorities urging the public to prioritize caution and strict adherence to road rules to prevent further loss of life.
