14th Edition of Shoko Festival to Unite Young People Under #BothSidesOfSamora Theme

Harare, Zimbabwe | The Shoko Festival is set to make a grand return for its 14th edition at the end of September, featuring headline performances by Nadia Nakai, Master H, and Tamy Moyo in a vibrant celebration of music and art.

Zimbabwe’s largest urban cultural festival will take place from September 26th to 28th, 2024, in Harare and Chitungwiza, under the theme “#BothSidesOfSamora.” This theme aims to unite young people from various social classes, inspired by the historical divide represented by Samora Machel Avenue.

Festival coordinator Vera Chisvo explained that this year’s theme is focused on bridging divides and celebrating the unifying power of art and culture across diverse communities.

“We’re thrilled to honor the diverse backgrounds of young people who come together through their shared passion for music and the performing arts. Our star-studded lineup reflects this unity, and we’ll be announcing even more acts soon,” Chisvo said.

Master H, a rising star in Zimdancehall, will debut at the festival with his popular track “Dhanzi,” known for its infectious energy. Afro-pop fusion artist Tamy Moyo, who last performed at Shoko in 2016, will return to the stage with her latest hit, “Kelly Kelvedhura,” featuring Master H, a track that is currently a fan favorite with nearly a million views on YouTube.

The three-day festival will offer a diverse lineup of hip-hop, dancehall, stand-up comedy, and spoken word, with popular segments like Mashup Night and Shoko Comedy Night taking place in Harare, and the main event, the Peace in the Hood Concert, happening in Chitungwiza.

For aspiring creatives, the Hub Unconference will be held on September 24th-25th at Moto Republik, featuring pre-festival discussions and bootcamps focused on digital media, technology, and the creative economy.

Over the years, Shoko Festival has featured leading figures in African urban culture, including Cassper Nyovest, HHP, AKA, Tehn Diamond, Tumi Morake, Kikky Badass, and Winky D.
