Simba Bhora president Simba “Buju” Ndoro has announced his withdrawal from the upcoming ZIFA executive committee elections scheduled for January 25, 2025.
Ndoro, who had successfully cleared the ethics and integrity test, had been a contender for one of six ordinary board member positions in Zimbabwe’s football governing body.
In a statement, Ndoro explained that his decision followed extensive reflection and discussions with family during the festive season. He expressed gratitude to those who supported his candidacy and reaffirmed his focus on the growth and success of Simba Bhora.
“Over the holidays, I took time to reflect, consult with my family, and re-energize. After careful thought, I’ve decided to step back from the ZIFA elections for now,” said Ndoro in an interview with Zimpapers Sports Hub.
Ndoro emphasized that the increasing demands of Simba Bhora required his full attention. Under his stewardship, the club achieved a historic milestone by winning the 2024 Premiership title in just their second season in the top flight. This triumph also marked the first time a team from Mashonaland Central province claimed the championship.
As Simba Bhora prepares to debut in the CAF Champions League, Ndoro highlighted the club’s ambition to make a significant impact on the continental stage. “Our goal in the Champions League is not just to participate but to make a meaningful impact and represent Zimbabwe with pride,” he said.
To meet CAF requirements, Simba Bhora is working to establish a women’s team and finalize upgrades to their home ground, Wadzanai Stadium in Shamva. The renovations, which aim to meet international standards, await approval from ZIFA’s First Instance Board.
Ndoro hinted at a future bid for a role in football administration, stating that he would consider running in ZIFA elections again once Simba Bhora’s structures are fully developed. “There will come a time when I re-enter the ZIFA race, but only after we’ve solidified the necessary support systems for Simba Bhora,” he noted.
Simba Bhora will represent Zimbabwe in the CAF Champions League this year, alongside Dynamos, who will compete in the Confederation Cup. Dynamos, the Chibuku Super Cup winners, are optimistic that renovations to Rufaro Stadium or the National Sports Stadium will be completed in time for their international fixtures.
Ndoro’s decision to focus on Simba Bhora underscores his dedication to building a sustainable and impactful legacy for the club while contributing to the broader development of Zimbabwean football.
