Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe has once again demonstrated its commitment to supporting individuals with albinism by donating sun protection products valued at $25,000 to the Albino Charity Organisation of Zimbabwe (ALCOZ).

On Wednesday, the bank presented 1,000 units each of sunscreen lotion, antibacterial soap, antiseptic liquid, lip balm, and sunhats. Palmer Mugavha, Head of Brand and Marketing at Stanbic Bank, expressed pride in their nine-year partnership with ALCOZ, emphasizing the importance of addressing the unique challenges faced by people with albinism, particularly during the hot season.

Mugavha highlighted that due to the lack of melanin, individuals with albinism require extra protection from the sun’s harmful rays, making products like sunscreen and lip balm essential. He acknowledged the economic difficulties many are facing and reaffirmed Stanbic Bank’s commitment to meeting these critical needs.

Albinism, a rare genetic condition, affects people worldwide and makes them particularly vulnerable to sun exposure. George Mafararikwa, Projects and Programmes Manager at ALCOZ, described Stanbic Bank as “an all-weather friend” for its consistent support over the years.

He noted that the assistance reaches even the most remote communities, ensuring that marginalized individuals benefit from these initiatives.

Mafararikwa stated that the donated products would help beneficiaries engage more freely in their communities, providing them with the protection needed to go about their daily activities safely. He also pointed out that this effort aligns with ALCOZ’s thematic focus on addressing the impacts of climate change on individuals with albinism.

Mugavha indicated that this donation is part of a broader Corporate Social Investment (CSI) strategy by Stanbic Bank, which encompasses areas such as health, education, environment, and sports. Both Stanbic Bank and ALCOZ look forward to continuing and expanding their partnership to support the albinism community.
