Harare, Zimbabwe – Legendary Sungura musician Nicholas ‘Madzibaba’ Zakaria has reached out to Zimbabweans, seeking their prayers as he grapples with significant health challenges.
The influential artist’s recent absence from a family show at Zebra Village sparked considerable concern among his dedicated fanbase.
Madzibaba confirmed that his health has been declining for some time, forcing him to delegate performance duties to Franco Slomo, who led his band at a recent family concert. News of his ailing health has triggered an outpouring of sympathy and support from both fans and fellow musicians.
Franco Slomo urged the local music industry to unite in prayer for Madzibaba. He emphasized that this is a time for solidarity, not internal squabbles, stressing the importance of supporting a pillar of their industry.
Veteran artist Kireni Zulu echoed this sentiment, asserting that musicians should always stand by each other through all circumstances. He cited the example of John Chibadura and the Chimbetus, who, despite being competitors, maintained mutual respect. Zulu believes that such unity is crucial for the industry’s collective strength, particularly in times when financial assistance is needed for medical care, as is the case with Madzibaba Zakaria.
