Teemak Returns With ‘Mavambo’ EP, Owning His Past and Embracing a New Chapter

Zimbabwean entrepreneur and musician Tawona Oswald Chipunza, widely known as Teemak, has re-entered the music scene with a bold and emotional new project.

At an exclusive launch held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Teemak premiered the music video for his debut EP Mavambo, signaling a permanent return to music and a renewed focus on growth, redemption, and artistry.

Mavambo, which translates to new beginnings, features six tracks including the emotionally raw singles “Painful” and “Something Special.” The EP reflects themes of growth, regret, and renewal—mirroring Teemak’s public journey of redemption.

During an emotionally charged interview with Zandile Zaza Ndlovu at the launch, Teemak broke down when asked about the widely publicized forex trading scandal that rocked his career in his early twenties. He admitted to the mistakes of his past and said he is slowly paying back the people who lost money through the failed business venture.

“I was 23, immature, and blinded by the hype,” Teemak confessed. “Now older and more focused, I’ve learned some painful lessons. This is a new chapter for me.”

He emphasized that his return to music is permanent this time, unlike his previous stint where he disappeared from the scene for years. “I’m here to stay. Music isn’t just a hobby anymore, it’s a calling,” he declared.

Representing the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ), Agga Nyabinde attended the launch and delivered heartfelt remarks endorsing Teemak’s creative evolution. “It’s not easy to own up to mistakes publicly, but Teemak is doing that, and he’s channeling it through art. That is an admirable powerful and bold decision,” Nyabinde said.
