Harare, Zimbabwe | The construction of a temporary traders’ market at Mbare Musika in Harare, spearheaded by Masimba Holdings, is progressing rapidly, with 82 percent of the work completed.
The market is set to open on February 1, providing a secure trading space for 5,000 vendors while a modern three-storey marketplace is under construction.
Masimba Holdings Chief Executive, Mr. Fungai Matahwa, shared updates during a Harare Provincial Media tour of the site.
“We are currently at 82 percent completion. The market will be ready by the third week, and traders will officially begin operations here on February 1,” said Mr. Matahwa.
This temporary facility is part of the Government’s broader plan to modernize Mbare Musika, aligning with its Vision 2030 goals of sustainable infrastructure development. The new setup aims to ensure traders have a secure and functional space to conduct their business during the construction of a more advanced marketplace.
The forthcoming modern three-storey Traders’ Market represents a key milestone in Mbare’s transformation. It will incorporate state-of-the-art facilities designed to accommodate growing demand and improve trading conditions, ensuring Mbare Musika remains a vital hub for commerce in Harare.
The temporary market’s completion and subsequent opening mark significant progress in the Government’s efforts to modernize urban marketplaces, create better trading environments, and drive economic growth.
