Francesco Marconati, self-proclaimed leader of an Italian criminal syndicate, has gained notoriety for his involvement with Queens Mine, where his malevolent deeds have left a lasting impact on those unfortunate enough to cross his path.
In September 2020, an unsettling incident unfolded at Goldmore Milling Centre, shedding light on the extent of Marconati’s brutality. Although the incident received limited coverage, legal records reveal the disturbing details. Marconati, a resident of the Queens Mine compound in Inyathi and employed at the mine, found himself facing multiple charges.
Simphosami Mtinsi, a Goldmore Milling Centre resident and employee, became embroiled in a violent altercation with Marconati’s son. Marconati swiftly intervened, escalating a minor disagreement into a savage assault.
Legal documents recount how Marconati forcefully seized Mtinsi, shoving him towards the gate and subjecting him to a relentless barrage of kicks, specifically targeting his groin. These actions were deemed unlawful, marking the beginning of a dark chapter.
The second charge sheds light on Marconati’s inclination towards violence, which extends beyond physical altercations. Following the assault, Marconati allegedly engaged in a destructive rampage. Recklessly driving his vehicle, he collided with an electric pole, further escalating the situation. Exiting his damaged vehicle, Marconati fired four shots into the air using a CZ pistol, instilling fear within the community.
In response to Marconati’s actions, Siphosami Mtinsi, the victim, acted swiftly by collecting spent cartridges from the scene and handing them over to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (Z.R.P) in Inyathi. Law enforcement recovered Marconati’s CZ pistol, bearing serial number 128986, as evidence.
Legal documents obtained by this journalist serve as a stark reminder of Marconati’s violent tendencies and blatant disregard for the law. His behavior not only jeopardizes the safety of those around him but also exposes the dark criminal underbelly that has infiltrated Queens Mine and its environs.
Beyond legal ramifications, Marconati’s presence holds the community of Inyathi hostage. Local residents and Queens Mine workers live in constant fear of retaliation, aware that dissent may result in violent repercussions.
The community’s cohesion is threatened by the unchecked authority and brazen actions of this self-proclaimed Italian Mafia figure.
