Three young boxers Julaykah Balakazi, Sean Pambeni, and Mqheli Moyo are set to represent Zimbabwe at the 2024 International Boxing Association (IBA) Youth World Boxing Championships, taking place in Budva, Montenegro, from October 21 to November 4.
This esteemed event draws young male and female boxers from around the world, offering a crucial platform for emerging talent.
Balakazi, hailing from Harare, expressed her pride in representing Zimbabwe and is determined to bring home gold medals. Pambeni, from Victoria Falls, stated, “We are honored to represent Zimbabwe and will do our best.” Moyo, from Hwange, thanked their coaches for their support and affirmed their readiness for the upcoming challenge.

National boxing youth coach Mphilis Moyo expressed confidence in the trio, noting their rigorous training since the beginning of the month. Meanwhile, Victoria Falls Boxing Academy head coach Tobia Mupfuti shared that they had hoped to send at least 10 boxers but had to reduce the team to three boxers and two coaches due to funding limitations.
The IBA Youth World Boxing Championships previously attracted around 600 young athletes in 2022, providing a significant opportunity for the next generation of elite boxers. Julaykah Balakazi
