Tragedy Strikes Mahamba Village: 9-Year-Old Found Hanging, Toddler Killed In Road Accident

Mahamba Village, under Chief Sai in Gokwe South, faces a somber atmosphere following the discovery of a 9-year-old boy hanging from a dish drying rack by his grandmother. Midlands police have launched investigations into the incident, which occurred on February 7, 2024, around 8 a.m.

According to Midweekwatch, the deceased, Clive Mpala, a grade 4 student at Zhamba Primary School, Gokwe South, woke up that morning to prepare for school but couldn’t find his socks. Despite efforts from his grandmother, Patricia Munkuli, to locate the missing socks, they remained elusive. Consequently, Munkuli advised Mpala not to attend school that day and left for Zhamba Business Centre to buy groceries, leaving Mpala at home.

Upon her return, Munkuli was met with a devastating sight: Mpala’s lifeless body hanging from the kitchen utensils drying rack. She immediately reported the incident to the police, who transported the body to Gokwe South District Hospital. Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko urged anyone with pertinent information to contact the authorities.

In a separate incident on the same day, tragedy struck again as a one-year-old lost her life in a road accident. The incident occurred along Bristol Road around 5:50 p.m. when Thompson Kakomwe, driving a sky blue Honda Fit from Gweru town to Mkoba with his two daughters, aged 10 and one year, lost control of the vehicle near Midlands Metals. The vehicle veered off the road and collided with a stationary truck.

Regrettably, Kimberly Kakomwe, the one-year-old daughter, succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Thompson sustained head injuries and is in critical condition at Gweru Provincial Hospital, while his other daughter is receiving treatment and is in stable condition at the same hospital, according to Inspector Mahoko.
