Boniface Mudzingwa, a player in the transportation sector, was approached by Arthur Takatizwa Chitiyo with an enticing offer: the supply of Light Straight Run, a petroleum product derived from crude oil distillation, despite Mudzingwa’s initial unfamiliarity with the product.
Intrigued by the potential profits, Mudzingwa entertained the proposal, envisioning gains from reselling the oil.
Chitiyo assured Mudzingwa that he would handle the disposal of the oil on his behalf, prompting Mudzingwa to proceed with the deal. A substantial order of 89,000 liters of the oil was placed, accompanied by a hefty payment demand of ZAR 1,453,750.
Transfers totaling ZAR 1,308,750 were directed to an account under the name of Pomona Energy, with the remaining ZAR 145,000 channeled to another South African account belonging to Norman Masindi.
Following the monetary transactions, Chitiyo instructed Mudzingwa to dispatch his trucks for oil transportation. Acting on Chitiyo’s directive, Mudzingwa’s trucks were deployed to transport the oil into Zimbabwe.
However, upon arrival, Chitiyo seized control of the trucks from Mudzingwa’s possession under the pretext of selling the oil on his behalf.

Subsequently, it is alleged by the State that Chitiyo sold the oil and misappropriated the proceeds for personal gain, leaving Mudzingwa empty-handed. After exhausting efforts to retrieve his funds, Mudzingwa resorted to filing a police report to address the matter.
Chitiyo appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi, where he was remanded out of custody until April 30, with representation from Rufaro Chonzi for the State.
