A truck driver, Cosmas Kazuzu, faces legal trouble after allegedly impersonating an official from Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga’s office and using the false identity to intimidate Douglas Zimbango, the CEO of Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC), over the suspension of a staff member.
Kazuzu, who reportedly called Zimbango multiple times, threatened to expose the ZCDC leadership’s alleged involvement in diamond theft if the suspension of the human resources manager, Lavet Wadawarewa, was not reversed. He appeared in court before Magistrate Tapiwa Banda and was remanded in custody, with his bail application scheduled for Tuesday.
The accusations stem from a series of events beginning on August 5, when Kazuzu allegedly contacted Zimbango, claiming to possess evidence linking the CEO to diamond theft and fraud at ZCDC. A week later, he reportedly sent a text to Zimbango, warning that failure to lift the suspension would result in his dismissal.
Kazuzu is also accused of impersonating “Matinyadze” from Chiwenga’s office during a phone conversation with Elias Mvere, ZCDC’s chief security officer, on August 16. Kazuzu reportedly made threats to release a document that implicated Zimbango and other senior managers in criminal activities at ZCDC, unless the disciplinary action against Wadawarewa was reversed.
The document, titled “Developments @ ZCDC,” was allegedly sent to Mvere, who then shared it with Zimbango. Following an investigation, Kazuzu was arrested by police. He is currently represented by lawyer Scott Panashe Mamimine.
