Sengezo Tshabangu, recently expelled by Welshman Ncube, has refuted claims that he was ever a member of Ncube’s CCC faction. Tshabangu now faces the possibility of being recalled.
Citing the party’s constitution, Tshabangu argued that the terms of the CCC leadership had expired on May 27, 2024, meaning there was no legitimate party president.
His spokesperson, Nqobizitha Mlilo, reinforced this stance, stating, “Senator Tshabangu has never been a member of CCC-Green. The records clearly show that he was neither nominated nor deployed to Parliament by CCC-Green or any of its officials, including the embattled Ncube.”
Mlilo further emphasized that Tshabangu had never attended or been part of any CCC-Green structures, making his alleged expulsion invalid. “Even court records from ongoing litigation between Prof Welshman Ncube and Senator Tshabangu since October 3, 2024, prove they belong to different CCC factions,” he added.
He accused Ncube of attempting to seize control of party funds under the Political Parties (Finance) Act, alleging that the CCC-Green faction, primarily composed of former MDC-Green members, became active in the courts and media around October 3, 2024, when Ncube and his allies set their sights on party finances.
