Sengezo Tshabangu, the interim secretary general of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), is set to receive over ZWG22 million in government funds.
According to a notice in the Government Gazette on September 6, CCC will get ZWG22,116,500 from a total of ZWG70 million allocated for political parties under the Political Parties Finance Act.
This funding is based on the percentage of votes each party received in the latest election. To qualify, a party must secure at least 5% of the total votes cast.
The notice, issued by Minister of Justice Ziyambi Ziyambi, details the distribution:
ZWG47,883,500 for ZANU-PF, which received 68.4% of the votes.
ZWG22,116,500 for CCC, which secured 31.6% of the votes.

This amount translates to about US$1,602,644 at the official exchange rate and approximately US$921,520 on the black market.
Tshabangu rose to prominence after the August 23, 2023 elections, taking over CCC from former leader Nelson Chamisa. Tshabangu declared himself the new secretary-general and recalled several legislators loyal to Chamisa, with support from key government figures.
Chamisa resigned as CCC leader earlier this year, accusing ZANU-PF of hijacking the party. This led to the resignation of CCC MPs Rusty Markham and Fadzayi Mahere in protest against Tshabangu’s leadership.
The Political Parties Finance Act of 2001 regulates state funding for political parties, requiring them to get at least 5% of the votes to qualify and banning foreign donations.
